About
Finishing what the first draft started.
Unflatline is a small firm that revives stalled, broken and dated software, and makes it safe to run.
Why we exist
Software gets abandoned. It does not get switched off.
AI tools have made it easy to start a product. Starting is the cheap part. The expensive part is the rest: the design a customer trusts, the access rules nobody wrote, the dependency that needed patching in March.
At Atarus we kept seeing the result from the attacker's side. Apps that worked, held real data and had never been reviewed. Unflatline exists to do the review, and the repair, before someone else finds the problem.
The Atarus relationship
An Atarus Security company.
Unflatline is an endorsed sub-brand of Atarus Security, an offensive security firm. Atarus does penetration testing, red team work, and cloud and identity security for organizations across the country, including critical infrastructure, local government and regulated industries.
Unflatline uses that experience on a different problem. Atarus tests systems to show what is wrong. Unflatline fixes products and proves the fix. We test to the standard we publish, and our severity language is Atarus's.
The name
The name.
A flatline is the straight line on a monitor when something stops. Unflatline is that line moving again.
How we work
AI-augmented engineering, senior human review on every change.
AI tools draft much of the routine work, which is why our scopes are fixed and our timelines short. Senior engineers decide what to build, test what was built and read every change before it ships. A person is accountable for every line.
We say this openly. Most of the apps we revive were built with AI and shipped without the review. We use the tools. We keep the review.
What we will not do
What we will not do.
- We will not promise outcomes we do not control: a sale price, a valuation, a ranking, a funding round.
- We will not test anything we do not have written authority to test.
- We will not ask for your master password.
- We will not publish your product, name or logo without your written permission.
- We will not claim awards, clients or numbers we do not have.
- We will not call software secure. We report what we tested, what we found and what is still open.
- We will not take work we think we cannot finish. We say so at the Diagnostic.
Where we are
Early, and open about it.
Unflatline is new. We do not show client logos or testimonials because we would rather you judge the work. The Diagnostic is the fastest way to do that, and the first five Revival Sprints are priced as founding engagements. You can read our standard and a sample security report today.
